Viking Colony (AB) donates Crop Value

A 30 acre canola field will mean improved health care in the Viking area after a unanimous decision within the Viking Hutterite Colony community.
The Viking Colony has seeded 30 acres of prime agricultural land with top hybrid canola and will be donating the full value of the crop to the Viking Health Found-ation to assist with costs such as the new medical clinic (finished at a cost of $1.1 million last November), equipment and professional education upgrading. Currently four doctors rent space in the clinic and there are specialists that come in on a monthly basis to provide services such as audiology.
But while the Viking Colony spearheaded the project and has committed the same 30 acres of canola for a minimum of three years, they are not the only ones involved in the project.
Iron Creek Colony donated a 30 acre piece (also canola this year) to the project for the same three year commitment of land, seed and crop inputs. Likewise, the Holt Colony, Vegreville Colony and the Holden Colony have also committed to three year donations to the project.
